Fluoride News…

I see that in the UK, dumping fluoride into the drinking water debate is still raging…

Health Secretary calls for universal water fluoridation
Andy Burnham, new Health Secretary, has called for universal water fluoridation despite protests over ‘mass medication’ and concern over links to cancer and bone disease.

I particularly like the “Mr Burnham was accused of a ‘conflict of interest’ as he has been a supporter and vice-president of the British Fluoridation Society for a number of years” part….

….. so, with that in mind, I bring the following article to your attention and as always, make sure you are informed by reading up on this subject before you agree to allow your children, not to mention yourselves, “mass medicated”…

A Fluoride-Free Pineal Gland is More Important than Ever

There has been some controversy over the activity of adding synthetic fluoride to municipal water supplies and elsewhere, but not enough. The seriousness of this issue is more than what most realize. Fluoridation ranks with GMO’s and tainted, forced vaccinations among the great crimes against humanity.

What needs to be understood is the difference in fluorides. There are two types of fluoride. Calcium Fluoride, which appears naturally in underground water supplies, is relatively benign. However, too much consumed daily can lead to bone or dental problems. Calcium is used to counter fluoride poisoning when it occurs. This redeeming factor indicates that the calcium in naturally formed calcium fluoride neutralizes much of fluoride’s toxic effects.

On the other hand, the type of fluorides added to water supplies and other beverages and foods are waste products of the nuclear, aluminum, and now mostly the phosphate (fertilizer) industries. The EPA has classified these as toxins: fluorosilicate acid, sodium silicofluoride, and sodium fluoride.

End Fluoridation, Say 600 Physicians, Dentists, Scientists And Environmentalists

‘In a statement released recently, over 600 professionals are urging Congress to stop water fluoridation until Congressional hearings are conducted. They cite new scientific evidence that fluoridation, long promoted to fight tooth decay, is ineffective and has serious health risks … Signer Dr. Arvid Carlsson, winner of the 2000 Nobel Prize for Medicine, says, “Fluoridation is against all principles of modern pharmacology. It’s really obsolete”.’

HCC Fluoride/Infant Formula Warning

‘The Policy and Strategy committee last night resolved to advise parents and caregivers … of advice issued by the American Dental Association (ADA) with regards to fluoridated water. In a November 9th 2006 email alert sent to all of its members, the ADA noted that “Infants less than one year old may be getting more than the optimal amount of fluoride if their primary source of nutrition is powdered or liquid infant formula mixed with water containing fluoride.” The ADA went on to advise: “If using a product that needs to be reconstituted, parents and caregivers should consider using water that has no or low levels of fluoride”.’

And don’t just take their word for it. I’m not aware of the ministers scientific qualifications, so let’s hear from an expert, (Do a search on google for more info and see what the other experts are saying)…..

Fluoride may be destroying our bones, our teeth and overall health… it doesn’t need to be added to our water and we may be taking unnecessary risks by doing so. – Dr. Hardy Limeback, a leading Canadian fluoride authority, former fluoride advocate. Now a Professor of Dentistry at the University of Toronto.

Puts that “conflict of interest” in a new light eh….

  1. After reading yours, I went over to this one;

    Andy Burnham MP Vice President of The British Fluoride Assoc- Wants To Dumb You All Down- Mass Medication With Fluoride

    Worth a read!

    “Did you know that sodium Fluoride is also one of the basic ingredients in both PROZAC (FLUoxetene Hydrochloride) and Sarin Nerve Gas (Isopropyl-Methyl-Phosphoryl FLUORIDE) – (Yes, folks the same Sarin Nerve Gas that terrorists released on a crowded Japanese subway train!). Let me repeat: the truth the American public needs to understand is the fact that Sodium Fluoride is nothing more (or less) than a hazardous waste by-product of the nuclear and aluminum industries. In addition to being the primary ingredient in rat and cockroach poisons, it is also a main ingredient in anesthetic, hypnotic, and psychiatric drugs as well as military NERVE GAS!”

    “Independent scientific evidence over the past 50 plus years has shown that sodium fluoride shortens our life span, promotes various cancers and mental disturbances, and most importantly, makes humans stupid, docile, and subservient, all in one neat little package. There is increasing evidence that aluminum in the brain is a causative factor in Alzheimer’s Disease, and evidence points towards sodium fluoride’s strong affinity to ‘bond’ with this dangerous aluminum (remember it is a byproduct of aluminum manufacturing) and also it has the ability to ‘trick’ the blood-brain barrier by imitating the hydrogen ion thus allowing this chemical access to brain tissue.”

    Keep shining the light my friend!

    1. Wow, you’re fast! I only just posted this one. Got up to make a brew, came back and you’ve made a comment.

      Cheers, Ranger. I’ll check out that link.

  2. If it’s useful, I found this page, as I was doing some more reading up on fluoride;

    How to Remove Fluoride from Drinking Water

  3. Please note that the above mentioned Dr.Limeback is not a consultant to the Canadian Dental Association (as stated above). Thank you.

  4. Thanks for the heads up, B.Vanderveen. I just took the quote direct, I didn’t check the details, I have to admit.

    I went and did some more searching on the guy. He may not be a consultant, but he seems more than qualified to discuss this subject, which is more than I can say for the minister in question. I found this amongst others;

    1. Still investigating….

      He may not have been a consultant, but he does have experience and knowledge in the field of dentistry.

      As opposed to the minister, one, Andy Burnham. Who has neither experience, nor training in the field he is discussing. Hardly qualified to make such serious implications, surely…..

      Andy Burnham @ Wikipedia

      I’m afraid, I will be giving more weight to the opinions of the man with a little more experience, even if he isn’t a consultant….

  5. Please note that the opinons expressed in this blog are not opinions expressed by the Canadian Dental Association (Dr.Limeback is not working with the CDA).

    Thank you.

    1. Basia,

      Yes, the opinions on this blog, the ones I write anyway, are mine. I tend to base my opinions on the advice I can and try to get from those I consider more informed than me.

      I wasn’t aware you were part of the Canadian Dental Assoc. Now I do, as you would be more qualified than me in this area, can I ask you then;

      1. Are the type of fluorides added to water supplies and other beverages and foods the waste products of the nuclear, aluminum, and now mostly the phosphate (fertilizer) industries?

      2. Is Sodium Fluoride one of the basic ingredients in both PROZAC (Fluoxetene Hydrochloride) and Sarin Nerve Gas (Isopropyl-Methyl-Phosphoryl FLUORIDE)

      3. Are you aware of independent scientific evidence showing that sodium fluoride shortens our life span, promotes various cancers and mental disturbances, along with increasing evidence that aluminum in the brain is a causative factor in Alzheimer’s Disease, with evidence pointing towards sodium fluoride’s strong affinity to ‘bond’ with this dangerous aluminum?

      4. Does, or would, the fluoride added to the water supply, have the ability at any level, to suppress a persons brain functioning ability?

      When politicians, (especially in light of recent events in the UK regarding their politicians and the cover up of expenses), start telling us what we should be doing, when a clear conflict of interest is evident, I simply do not trust them.

      When qualified “dentists”, or doctors make warning noises about something, I tend to listen up and take action now, as opposed to when it may be too late.

      Thanks for being involved Basia,

  6. Please feel free to read our (Canadian) position on fluorides on our website. There are many sources of scientific and medical information, many of them more local to you, outside of our organization that you should likely resource.

  7. Basia

    From your website (…..

    12. Are there any health risks associated with water fluoridation?

    Many studies have looked at this topic. A U.S. committee on environmental health that has reviewed many of these studies has concluded that there is no link between cancer in humans and fluoride levels. And although some studies suggest that increased bone fragility may be linked to higher rates of exposure, we don’t know yet for certain as there are too many factors involved.

    It’s the “we don’t know for certain….” part that has me worried.

    Shouldn’t you find out “for certain” first, before you start adding it to the water supply? Once it’s in there, there’s no getting it out.

  8. Basia,

    Again, from the CDA website…

    What is fluoride? Fluoride is a mineral found in nature. There is fluoride in the ocean, in the earth’s crust and in fresh water.

    That may be, but as far as I am aware, and I am happy to be corrected it is sodium fluoride that is being added to the water, currently and after doing some searching on some chemistry websites, I found;

    “Solutions of inorganic fluorides in water contain F− and bifluoride HF2−. Few inorganic fluorides are soluble in water without undergoing significant hydrolysis. Examples of inorganic fluorides include hydrofluoric acid (HF), sodium fluoride (NaF), and uranium hexafluoride (UF6)

    So fluoride may well be in water, but not in the form of sodium fluoride, that is being added. Is this correct?

  9. Hi again, I finally had a moment to get back to this question above and here is what I have been able to find for you:

    You are correct, the most common naturally occurring compound containing fluorine is fluorite, which is a form of calcium fluoride. As a result, most of the naturally fluoridated water contains calcium fluoride. Because calcium fluoride is only very slightly soluble in water, its use for the adjustment of fluoride levels in drinking water is not practical and other more soluble types of fluoride are used for that purpose.
    Inorganic fluorides, like sodium fluoride or calcium fluorides are ionized, i.e. they separate into F- and Na+ or Ca+ ions, when dissolved in water. Because it is the F- ion that is protecting teeth against decay (it can easily replace a few of the Calcium atoms of the enamel to produce a tooth surface that better resists acid dissolution) the type of fluoride used to provide those F- ions is essentially unimportant…

  10. Interesting.
    Basia, what is your background in either chemistry or dentistry? The CDA website suggests that you are a manager in ‘Communications’, which, unfortunately, usually turns out to actually be ‘spin’. If we shouldn’t listen to Dr Limeback, why should we listen to you?

    Fluoride’s ‘ability to damage the brain represents one of the most active areas of research on fluoride toxicity today’ ( If you read this page, you also discover that ‘research on fluoride and the brain has been fueled by 18 human studies from China, India, Iran, and Mexico finding elevated levels of fluoride exposure to be associated with IQ deficits in children. Fluoride’s impact on IQ is exacerbated among children with low-iodine exposure.’

    ‘In addition to IQ studies, 3 studies (Yu 1996; Du 1992; Han 1989) have found that fluoride accumulates in the brain of the fetus, causing damage to cells and neurotransmitters and 1 study (Li 2004) has found a correlation between exposure to fluoride during fetal development and behavioral deficits among neonates.’

    ‘Several recent studies have found that even adult exposures to fluoride may result in central nervous system disturbances, particularly among industrial workers.’

    ‘The findings of neurological effects in fluoride-exposed humans is consistent with, and strengthened by, recent findings from over 40 animal studies published since 1992. As with the studies on humans, the studies on animals have reported an impairment in learning and memory prorcesses among the fluoride-treated groups.’

    ‘The animal studies have also documented considerable evidence of direct toxic effects of fluoride on brain tissue, even at levels as low as 1 ppm fluoride in water (Varner 1998). These effects include:

    — reduction in nicotinic acetylcholine receptors;
    — reduction in lipid content;
    — impaired anti-oxidant defense systems;
    — damage to the hippocampus;
    — damage to the purkinje cells;
    — increased uptake of aluminum;
    — formation of beta-amyloid plaques (the classic brain abnormality in Alzheimer’s disease);
    — exacerbation of lesions induced by iodine deficiency; and
    — accumulation of fluoride in the pineal gland.’

    It’s interesting, also, that you seem to be suggesting that sodium fluoride (or calcium fluoride) might be the ‘fluoride of choice’…

    ‘Of major interest to us was the statement released Jan 2, 1997 from the employees union of the Environmental Protection Agency, representing 1500 scientists, engineers, lawyers, and other professionals at EPA headquarters in Washington DC. The statement reads: “Our members’ review of the body of evidence over the last 11 years, including animal and human epidemiology studies, indicates a causal link between fluoride/fluoridation and cancer, genetic damage, neurological impairment, and bone pathology.”
    This article was released during a time that we were actively engaged in reviewing the thyroid medical literature for our forthcoming book. We were surprised, and amhow little of this information was seeping into public knowledge. In fact, the promoters of fluoride in municipal water supplies were oddly becoming more zealous than ever.
    Then we discovered that the original research intended to support the initial addition of fluoride into drinking water, was flawed. For example, in 1945, the US Public Health Service began to add sodium fluoride into the municipal drinking water of Grand Rapids, MI, the first city in the US to fluoridate. Grand Rapids was supposed to serve as the test city. It’s dental decay rates were to be compared with those of Muskegon, MI, which was non-fluoridated. After ten years, it was to be determined if fluoride was both safe and effective.
    Amazingly, this “research” was to be performed on an entire city, rather than using a voluntary sampling group initially. More strange was that long before the study was completed, the Public Health Service and the American Dental Association endorsed fluoridation. This was in 1950, only a few years into the supposed ten-year study. WIthin a short time after that, Muskegon, the control city, was also fluoridated. The decision and the endorsements entirely overshadowed the fact that the tooth decay rate in non-fluoridated Muskegon had decreased about as much as the fluoridated city, Grand Rapids.
    Not only was the science incomplete, but in addition, sodium fluoride was soon replaced by another fluoride substance, hydrofluosilicic acid, a byproduct of the phosphate fertilizer industry primarily, and also from some aluminum plants.’ (

    ‘Early in the 1950’s, the PHS gave its blessing to these alternate sources of fluoride, without having even attempted to research them.’
    – Is this the same situation that the CDA is in?

    ‘Not everyone needs to avoid fluoride like the plague, but thyroid sufferers should.’
    – So, what is the Canadian government doing to protect thyroid sufferers?

    ‘The first step to take is to stop drinking fluoridated water. You will need more than the standard carbon cannister water filters for this purpose. Instead, you will need a reverse osmosis or distillation unit.’
    – Is the CDA providing reverse osmosis or distillation units for thyroid sufferers, or even for those not wishing to drink the fluoridated water, because, you know, some of us are actually lucky enough (and sensible enough) to look after our own teeth… so, why do we have to drink the additional fluoride?

    Again, I ask, what is your background in either chemistry or dentistry, that means that what you have posted here is more than just an ‘opinion’? And, even if you can back up your opinion with some sound science, surely the fact that there are so many concerns regarding the application of fluoride and its clearly damaging effects on health should mean that people with poor dental health should be encouraged to brush more regularly, rather than ‘poison’?

    One final question, why is the CDA pushing the addition of fluoride in the water, and apparently not pushing for cheaper dentists so that the poorer people get to actually see a dentist rather than everyone having to imbibe an apparently seriously dangerous and brain-altering chemical?

    I’ll look forward to reading your response.

  11. Basia,
    You haven’t answered many, if any, of my questions. All you’ve done it seems is to confirm my findings on the chemistry websites I looked up. What about the prozac question, for example?

  12. Winston,
    Thanks for getting involved and giving some more info. very interesting.

  13. So, it’s been over a week, and no reply from Basia. Interesting.
    Basia was clearly following this blog, as the evidence demonstrates. I can therefore only assume then that the CDA – via their communications manager, Basia – is communicating that they are making no effort to protect thyroid sufferers, or to provide reverse osmosis devices to individuals not requiring the fluoride to ‘protect their teeth’.
    Which then, of course, raises the question that, if they’re not protecting general health (otherwise, surely, they’d happily protect thyroid sufferers and provide reverse osmosis devices – and don’t even waste time declaring it’s a ‘cost issue’), what are they adding the fluoride for?
