On our weekend wander over the South Downs, we came upon a sky full of paragliders as we reached Beachy Head.
One of the ladies undertaking an afternoon of this, happy to chat about it, told me after getting her licence (You need a licence to paraglide? Who knew…..) about a year ago, this is one of the first chances she’d had to get out. August apparently had been a wipe out, due to it being too windy.
As flier after flier zipped past, before gently drifting upwards, the obvious thought crossed my mind,…. I fancy a go….
Found Merlin fast asleep on the floor, after a hard days mousing….
Blogging has been a bit light. Not much has been happening….
Although, the big news, I’ve been “selected” to be the assistant football/soccer coach for the boy’s U14 team this year. We’ve had a couple of training sessions and a friendly, exhibition game against the U15 girls team…. who came out ready to take no prisoners….. but we managed a 1-0 win, with the boy scoring the only goal. The season begins proper in the Spring, when the league play begins leading up to the provincial finals in June, which we hope this year to through to.
Other than that, “work” has taken hold, websites have been built and some music has been made.
We were keeping quiet about it until we knew for sure, but over the last 3 Friday nights, Sam has been attending the try outs for Kelowna United U12 Boys. He played over the summer for them, but this was the real deal. Started out with abround 90 boys all fighting for a place, more than we were expecting, that needed to be whittled down to 30. There were 6 coaches all grading the boys, each week “culling” them as we went along.
At 6.30pm, last Friday the group was split into 2, when the roar went up from Sam’s group, it was job done. He and 2 of his mates all made the grade.
So, we have a soccer, or football star in the making, it seems. early days, I know, but he’s on the way. Now we just need to find the cash for it. Some travelling is now going to be required, maybe even down into the U.S., which will be interesting….
Sam had a call from the regional organiser and coach for the Kelowna soccer team last night and it was finalised tonight, that he has a place on the Kelowna team in a regional tournament next weekend, against, Penticton, Kamloops and Vernon. Training starts this week, 3 sessions and then all stations go next Saturday.
Fingers crossed there may be some other scouts there, should he shine on the day. He’s now on about getting a new set of boots as the old ones are now too small.
