Peachland Fire, 2010….

Peachland Fire, 2010

Peachland Fire, 2010

I don’t see any planes, or "water choppers", so it would appear, from our view, that it’s under control for now…. it’s been very hot and dry for a few days now though, so, we wait and see. We have had some serious winds over the last 24 hours, but fortunately, they have died down a little for now, which will help….

Fire crews are currently battling a wildfire that is burning in the Drought Hill area just south of Gorman’s Mill.

The fire, which appears to have started near Seclusion Bay has crept up the hill close to Highway 97.

Reports indicate people are being evacuated from Seclusion Bay Road. Evacuees are being taken to the Westbank Community Hall.

There are reports the fire has crossed the road, forcing some residents to go back to the lake.

Rescue crews are evacuating residents by water utilizing two rescue craft.

Air tankers from the Ministry of Forests have been called in.

Weather conditions are extremely gusty. They appear to be out of the west.

The forecast for Monday is calling for winds gusting from the southwest at 50/km an hour.

Traffic is stalled southbound on Highway 97 at the Okanagan Connector.

Monster Beast found in Ontario….

Er….

Bizarre creature washes up in small Ontario town….

Locals in a small Canadian town have been stumped by the appearance of a bizarre creature, which was dragged from a lake. The animal, which has a long hairy body with bald skin on its head, feet and face, has prompted wild internet speculation that it is a more evolved version of the famous Montauk Monster. The creature was discovered by two nurses in the town of Kitchenuhmaykoosib in Ontario, Canada, while out on a walk with their dog. When the dog began sniffing in the lake, the two women started investigating, before the dog pulled the dead animal out.

After taking some photographs of the odd animal, the nurses left it alone. When locals decided to go back and retrieve the body, it has disappeared. The photographs have now been posted on a local website, with an explanation which reads: ‘This creature was first discovered by Sam the Dog, a local dog.

‘It was discovered first week of May in the creek section of town, hikers noticed Sam sniffing something in the water and they approached to see in what the Sam had detected and they noticed the creature in the water face down. ‘The dog jumped in the lake and pulled the creature to the rocks and dragged it out for the hikers to see and these are the photos they took.

‘The creature’s tail is like a rat’s tail and it is a foot long.’ There has been much speculation about what kind of species the animal is. The body of the creature appears to look something like an otter, while its face – complete with long fang-like teeth, bears a striking resemblance to a boar-like animal. Even the local police chief Donny Morris is baffled, saying: ‘What it is, I don’t know. I’m just as curious as everyone else.’

Full-body scanners are waste of money, Israeli expert says….

Genius….

Thanks for asking if we wanted them, government of Canada and thanks for doing the homework on them before you forked out the cash, OUR cash. Let’s hope someone kept the receipt….

Full-body scanners are waste of money, Israeli expert says

A leading Israeli airport security expert says the Canadian government has wasted millions of dollars to install “useless” imaging machines at airports across the country.

“I don’t know why everybody is running to buy these expensive and useless machines. I can overcome the body scanners with enough explosives to bring down a Boeing 747,” Rafi Sela told parliamentarians probing the state of aviation safety in Canada.

That’s why we haven’t put them in our airport,” Sela said, referring to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport, which has some of the toughest security in the world.

HomeBrew Lager….

The resting period is over!…

Homebrew Lager...

The first attempt at our own lager is ready for drinking. A European style lager, with a mild flavour. A success for our first attempt though. We’re enjoying the first bottles tonight!

Next up, the bottling of our Malbec, on Saturday. That’s best after about 6 months apparently, although, I’m not sure how we’re going to last that long with it sitting there….

Adaline….

Doing a bit of tutoring in the Streaming Cafe a few weeks back and heard a CD they were playing, which blew me away….

So when I found out Vancouver based artist, Adaline, was coming to the cafe for a show, it was one we had to go to. If you want to see the show itself, head over to the cafe’s website and search the archive section. In the meantime, she has just released her first single.video. Enjoy….

Good, eh…. sure beats the crap you get fed on Pop Idol, that’s for sure. There’s talent out there, you just have to work a little harder to find it sometimes…..

The CD has been on repeat for the last few days now, with Holly belting out the song in the video.

December Sunset…

Caught the sun going down…

December Sunset....

…. bit like the temperature. We’re expecting -20’odd any day now. No snow though, which is odd for December in Canada… we now need the temperature to go up a bit now, for the snow.

The Birds….

“If you move it, they will come!”…

The Birds (1)...We’ve moved the bird feeder from the back garden, round so it’s in front our lounge/living room window. Just managed to catch them on their. Just before all pegs were full and there were others waiting in the tree for a go on it!

The boys were asleep somewhere, so the birds had some peace without Merlin bouncing up and down in the window….

It was also sunny when I took the photo, as I look now, bad weather is coming up through thvalley. Snow is forecast for later this week, so after much nagging, I finally got the winter tires on….

On the “homesteading” front, our new plan is homemade wine and beer! We’ve even got our labels designed ready. Bottles have been cleaned and are in storage as we wait for the first lager brew in aboutt 4/5 weeks. The wine selection is still to be decided upon. It’ll be red, but which one, we’re not sure. We tasted a ladies latest batch, having been laid down for about 6 months and to be honest, it weren’t too bad. So, fingers crossed, the Chateau le Boom could be on the way! If it goes well, th food bunker may be adapted to incoporate the wine cellar too….

On the wolf cub, sadly we missed out. A bit disappointing, but the original guy who had put down a deposit, decided he did want it after all. I have to say, the guy who was the breeder, was an almost limitless font of knowledge and was the host to beat all hosts, really nice. A glass of wine and a beer were handed out when we sat down, “I’ve had a tough day training dogs for the police. They can be a right pain. The people, not the dogs!” Still, as the kids said, it was an experience they will never forget, holding a cub, as the parents, timberwolves, wandered around us in the kitchen, flopping on top of us and slobbering all over us. “They’re not going to eat me are they?”, said Miss, as Simba decided, the huge daddy wolf, decided she was a comfy cushion and was spread across her lap. Poor little girl, she was half his size…. The next litter is due in the spring, so we’ll get our names down for one now…. we had a great name and everything…

The Boys…

One of their favourite spots after a hectic mad chase round the apartment….

The Boys...

We’ve aquired a new kitten. Merlin. He and the rest of his litter were found in a box, covered with rubbish, waiting for the rubbish men. What some people can bring themselves to do never ceases to amaze me. I mean, let the sodding animal shelter have them if nothing else. But the rubbish men? Abusive words are itching to be written, but I will refrain, not that these morons deserve any less….

Anyway, the good news is, they seem to be getting on more and more, with Mojo acting like the big boss, tolerant of the new upstart, bounding around and nuzzling up against him in his basket. Until, he’s had enough, whereby he pins him down by the throat, amazingly, with no serious injury.

Speaking of the cats, I found this video we did, of Mojo at the fishtank. As with all fishing, it requires a little patience….

Now I just need to catch Merlin at it too. As I type, he’s bouncing round the tank in a similar fashion, as the fish glide obliviously up and down…..
