Kelowna United….

He made it….

We were keeping quiet about it until we knew for sure, but over the last 3 Friday nights, Sam has been attending the try outs for Kelowna United U12 Boys. He played over the summer for them, but this was the real deal. Started out with abround 90 boys all fighting for a place, more than we were expecting, that needed to be whittled down to 30. There were 6 coaches all grading the boys, each week “culling” them as we went along.

At 6.30pm, last Friday the group was split into 2, when the roar went up from Sam’s group, it was job done. He and 2 of his mates all made the grade.

So, we have a soccer, or football star in the making, it seems. early days, I know, but he’s on the way. Now we just need to find the cash for it. Some travelling is now going to be required, maybe even down into the U.S., which will be interesting….

Seton Lake….

On the way home from camping in Vancouver, we had to keep stopping. Too much superb scenery to get photos of. Shame it was cloudy, but you can’t have everthing, I guess….

Just as we came to Lillooet, we stopped off for a quick toilet break at Seton Lake. This was 3 pictures stitched together. To see it larger, click here.

Liloet

It’s a good thing we did the scenic route on the way home. We’d never have got there. It took nearly 12 hours to get home….

Outdoor Movies….

Throughout the summer, the City of Kelowna put on entertaiment in the city park. Music, of all styles, as well as the odd movie outdoors….

Outdoor Movies....

We saw Happy Feet, took the camp stove down with us, warmed our chilli, wrapped up in our blankets and enjoyed the film. Forgot the torch though, so when the the lights went down, we had a bit of job making sure we had everything. We’re not missing anything, so I guess we found everything….

Gas Prices Up, Barrel of Oil Down….

Last week, due to the hurricanes in the U.S., the price of gas here, jumped 13c in one day, a 10% price. This as the price of a barrel was dropping. Go figure….

And, to be expected, the people all began moaning. Quite rightly, but, well, now, what did you expect? This was exactly my point a couple of posts back. I hate to say it, but Canadians are some of the most ill informed people, politically, I have come across. (Not all of them, so please don’t take offence. There are some pretty ill informed people in the UK, and Europe too…..)

I was warning Canadians of the NAFTA agreement over 18 months ago and was met with totally apathy. Not interested. Well, guess what, stop whining. Yeah, the U.S. price went up only 1c, so you got well and truly screwed and unless you do something, you’ll get screwed again. Only next time, it might be your freshwater as well as your gas.

So, we are due a drop, apparently, as of tomorrow, of roughly 8c. Still not the same as the jump though is it,  you fair and friendly gas companies.

Pump watcher predicts gas-price drop
Gas prices will drop nearly a dime Tuesday after a record one-day jump last week, a Liberal MP predicts.

Blatant profiteering, if ever there was any. Don’t give me that “well, they’re in business to make money.” crap. If anyone can explain to me how the price at the pump can be as high as is it was when the barrel was $150, nearly, I’d love to hear it. Now it’s dropped below $100, how we should be grateful for an 8c drop is beyond me. Crooks, oil companies and governments, the lot of them. And we’re all idiots for putting up with it.

Maybe, you’ll start educating yourselves now. But I doubt it.

Mission Creek Regional Park….

One of our friends has given us a bike rack for the Jeep, so we finally got round to using it last weekend, when we took them over to Mission Creek Regional Park, in Kelowna….

Mission Creek (1)....

Mission Creek (2)....

The ride is about 6km each way, as you cycle along the creek heading down to the lake. Bears had been sighted but not by us, of course…. all we saw was a couple of cranes, herons and ravens, along with the first few kokanee salmon heading upstream for the spawning season. The missus saw an osprey soaring past with a salmon still wriggling in it’s mouth, but that was it. Boring, eh!….

Mission Creek (3)....

With the kids back to school and the temperature cooling off, we’re going to try to do a bit more of this before the snow appears in a month or so….
