Just had an email from a reader in the UK;

“I was watching a TV programme tonight, and they said food WAS more nutritious in the 50’s…to get the same vitamin A – in the 50’s you needed one orange, now, you’d need 8…to get the same vitamin C – in the 50’s you need one tomato, now, you’d need ten.

Why? increased use of chemical fertilisers, and increased transporting times to deliver to supermarkets…..”
