Driving Tests……

After some serious panicing on Dad’s part, as he is a lot older, both me and him have passed our BC Drivers Licence. We have a yellow slip of paper with our names on, the cards come in a couple of weeks. Now we need to get Mum and Leigh sorted out too.

It was looking like a bit of a stumbling block when I went for it last week, to be confronted by a stroppy little woman, tellimg me that I would have to hand over my UK licence. Well, I wasn’t prepared to do that and the conversation went, as one can imagine, downhill from there……

Anyhow, at present the UK is one of the only countries not to have a reciprocal arrangment with Canada, allowing new residents to simply fill out a form for a licence exchange. (It’s in the pipeline I was told today.) So, the deal is, you have to take a test within 90 days of landing here. You hand over your UK licence, but get it back if you pass. If you fail they keep it, expecting you to take a re-test within 7 days.

The next battle coming over the horizon is going to be with either the immigration department over Leigh or with the tax department. It’s gonna be fun!

Emmigrating to a new country? It’s easy……
