Tonight we have discovered ice hockey! At $30 for the 4 of us to go, it was worth checking Canada’s favourite sport the first time.
It was great!
The Kelowna Rockets where playing host, with a pre-season exhibition game, to the Vancouver Giants, at the Prospera Place Stadium. And with the Giants with a confidence boosting 7-0 in all their pre-season matches, this was going to be tough.
Pumping rock music before, (between periods, and when the punch up’s occured), popcorn and coke, and we were set for action.
Plenty of fast paced back and forth, with the Giants easily racing ahead with the number of shots on goal, it was only a matter of time before they opened the scoreline which they did to go 1-0 up. Another goal followed before the end of the first period, and the Rockets where struggling to get the puck anywhere near the Giants goal. Plenty of good saves though on both sides, goalies to be commended.
With the Rockets almost appearing to bounce of the Vancouver players at time, they increased their lead to 3-0, and with about 10 mins left to go, it looked gloomy for the Kelowna side, before they finally managed to get one past the Giants keeper, at which point, I, Leigh and Samuel, along with most of the crowd, erupted with noise!!! “Come on!”
But time was then against the Rockets, and the final score was probably a fair one, 3-1 to the Vancouver Giants. Let’s hope they can improve their passing which was a little rusty, in time for the start of the season this week.
I’m of to get our season tickets!
